The ÖGPB is a non-profit association founded in 1977. The purpose of the association is to promote civic education in the field of adult education. 

The two main tasks of the ÖGPB are, on the one hand, to support civic adult education in Austria through educational offers, project consulting and training programs and, on the other hand, to provide financial support for civic adult education projects in all nine member states of Austria.
